LOS ANGELES – The No. 15 Loyola Marymount University Lions (1-0, 0-0 WCC) head north to open West Coast Conference play on Sunday when they travel to Santa Clara to face the Broncos.
The Lions are eager to return to the pitch after finishing their nonconference schedule undefeated. LMU netted a 1-0 victory over UCLA and had their date with San Diego canceled last weekend so they'll be rested and ready for the trip north.
LMU, preseason favorites to win the WCC, have used their offense as a catalyst early in the season outshooting their opponents 11-2 and getting a wide array of chances from
Ronaldo Brown and
Duhaney Williams. Brown leads the Lions in shots with three while Williams is tied for second in shots with two.
In addition to LMU's offensive prowess the Lions continue to get defensive production from MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List defender
Gerardo Lopez. Lopez, along with
Nick Dauchot, have been the anchors to a defense that has only allowed two shots on the year.
In net,
Jacob Jackson continues to pile up the clean sheets for the Lions. Jackson is picking up right where he left off last season when he posted nine shutouts on the year. He already has taken home UCU WCC Defensive Player of the Week honors this season and will look to add more.
LMU is looking to build on their current four-game winning streak against the Broncos after taking a 2-0 result at Sullivan Field in 2019.
The Lions will return to Sullivan and host Gonzaga on Sunday, March 7 at 1:00 p.m.
