Lions Celebrate Black History Month During Saturday's Game

LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team will celebrate Black History Month in its last home game of the season in Gersten Pavilion on Saturday, February 20th.  The Lions will use this game to celebrate and highlight Black people, Black culture and Black history.

The Lions will open Saturday's game against Pacific with the Black National Anthem. The Black National Anthem has served as a symbol of endurance, suffering, faith freedom and triumph.

The team will be wearing their all-black alternate uniforms. Each player individualized their jersey with a word or phrase that promotes social justice.

This will be the last home game of the season for the women's basketball team, which is typically used to honor the Lion seniors. Due to Covid-19, head coach Charity Elliott is excited to announce the current seniors have another year of eligibility and plan to return to LMU next season.  Returning senior include, Meghan Mandel, Jasmine Jones and Chelsey Gipson.

Saturday's game will tip-off at 5 PM and can be seen on WCC Network.
