LOS ANGELES - The LMU Lions Women's Basketball team will get one final shot this season at a non-conference opponent when they travel to Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday to face the Titans.
The matchup will be their fourth Big West opponent this season and third rematch from the 2019-2020 season, one in which the Lions fell 74-79 in overtime. Six Lions from the 2019 roster remain on the team and will have a chance at revenge on Tuesday (Aspyn Adams,
Khari Clark,
Chelsey Gipson,
Haley Herdman,
Jasmine Jones, and
Meghan Mandel).
The Lions take the court following a thrilling victory over Texas State on Saturday. Of the seven Lions that saw action, three were in double figure scoring, including Jones, who notched her 1,000th career point in the victory.
Mandel and Adams also made triumphant returns to Gersten Pavilion after long bouts with injuries. The pair bounced back right where they left off, with Adams knocking down four daggers from behind the arc and Mandel rejecting five shots.
Coach Aarika Hughes and her squad have faced a lot of adversity over the last week and a half, from limited numbers in practice, to finals week, and multiple injuries, but managed to overcome all that was stacked against them and pull-off a statement win at home.
The Titans bring a relatively new lineup from the one that mounted the comeback victory at LMU in 2019. Nonetheless, the Lions will still have their hands full as three Titans currently average double-digit scoring, and as a team, they are shooting just over 40% from the field.
This will be the Titan's first game in 11 days, their last matchup being on Dec. 10th, a 45-100 defeat at the hands of the Utah Utes. Currently, Cal State Fullerton is 2-0 against WCC opponents this season after defeating Pepperdine on the road and San Francisco at home.
The Lions will look to build on their triumphant weekend victory and head into WCC action an even .500 on the season. Tip off from Titan Gym will be at 7 p.m. and can be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats on
