Los Angeles - For the only time this month, LMU men's basketball is home for a game. The Lions will host New Mexico State on Saturday at 4:00 PM on WCC Network.
LMU is coming into the game with two consecutive road wins to open December. In a road-heavy final month of the season before conference play begins, Saturday's game at Gersten Pavilion is the lone opportunity for fans to see the Lions on the Bluff. The two true road games were successful, however, as LMU picked up wins at Long Beach State and at Tulsa. Those consecutive non-conference wins in back-to-back away games is something the program had previously only accomplished one other time since the 1995-96 season.
New Mexico State will be a tough team to play at home. The Aggies have won 123 games under Chris Jans in less than five seasons for a win percentage of over 75 percent of their games played.
LMU has had some memorable matchups in the past with New Mexico State. In 1990, the two teams matched up in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Long Beach. In that game, Bo Kimble paid tribute to fallen teammate Hank Gathers by shooting and making a left-handed free throw for the first time. The Lions won the game and would continue on through the tournament all the way to the Elite Eight.
In 2006 against the Aggies, Brandon Worthy hit an off-balance three pointer in the last home game between the two schools to give the Lions a two-point win. The Lions won the game, 71-69, behind Worthy's 28 points.
In LMU's game on Tuesday, a comeback win over Tulsa, two Lions recorded double-doubles in the same game for the first time this season. In December,
Eli Scott is averaging 15.5 points per game, 10.5 rebounds per game, and 6.5 assists per game.
Dameane Douglas has increased his scoring in each game back since his return from injury and put up a season-best 19 points and a career-best 11 rebounds in the win over the Golden Hurricane.
In addition to the WCC Network feed, KXLU 88.9 will broadcast the audio of the game on radio. Students in attendance will have a chance to win different finals themed items including scantrons, essay booklets, headphones, and gift cards for coffee.
