Lions Apply Second Half Pressure in Defeat

LOS ANGELES – One goal was the difference in LMU women's soccer's defeat on Saturday night. Portland scored in the 64th minute to take the game, 1-0, despite a flurry of second half shots from the Lions.

Both teams played a scoreless opening 45 minutes, with LMU even earning the game's first corner kick less than five minutes in.

The best chance for the Lions came in the 61st minute as Skylar Robledo played a dangerous cross into the box and Amber McCorkle had a look for a strong-footed shot that ended in the goalkeeper's arms.

Less than three minutes later, Portland scored their lone goal off a free kick to take the lead.

Sadie Kenny made five saves, all in the second half, after earning her second start of the season.

The Lions have two games remaining on the schedule, an away contest on Wednesday at Santa Clara, then senior day on Nov. 6, hosting Gonzaga.
