Men’s Water Polo Wins Big in Final Home Game

LOS ANGELES – The LMU men's water polo team closed out the home portion of its schedule on Saturday with a 26-8 WWPA win over Fresno Pacific.
 
LMU took a 2-0 lead to open the game following goals by Blazo Mitrovic and Joseph Cavazos. FPU scored the following goal, then Daniel Roth responded with one for LMU. The same sequence happened as the Sunbirds scored a second and again Roth answered. David Carrasco ended the period with a goal with 38 seconds to play to give LMU a 5-2 lead.
 
Five different Lions scored the first five goals of the second quarter as Bruno Salonikios, Blazo Mitrovic, Joseph Cavazos, Alex Marlow, and Luke Chandler each beat the goalkeeper. FPU added one back before David Carrasco made it an 11-3 game. Fresno Pacific scored the final two goals of the half to make it 11-5 at intermission.
 
The Lions outscored the Sunbirds 8-1 in the third quarter to build up a lead of 19-6. Cavazos scored the first goal of the half, then Fresno Pacific added one back before LMU closed the period with seven unanswered. Luke Chandler scored a hat trick in the quarter with Alexandros Athymaritis adding two, and Mitrovic and Augie Renezeder each scoring one.
 
Renezeder opened the fourth quarter with a goal. Alex Marlow scored one of his own before taking over for Robert Halligan as goalkeeper the rest of the way. LMU scored the final five goals as Luke Chandler, Aden Mina, Tommy Lien, Kai Scarlet, and Milan Sarkadi contributed to the win with goals.
 
Halligan played the first 27+ minutes in goal making eight saves. Marlow did not allow a goal over the final four minutes of the game.
 
The Lions close out the final three games of the regular season on the road, including two conference games next week.
