DAVIS, Calif. – The #15 LMU men's water polo team and the #9 UC Davis men's water polo team played on Thursday night with conference tournament implications. The Lions entered the day with one WWPA loss, while the Aggies looked to remain unbeaten in conference play.

LMU fell in an early 3-0 hole before
Blazo Mitrovic put the visitors on the board with 3:10 to play in the first quarter. UC Davis scored twice more to take a 5-1 lead after eight minutes of action.

David Carrasco scored the first two goals of the second period, including his first from the penalty spot. After the Aggies built their lead back up to four goals, Mitrovic scored twice within a minute's span to cut the deficit to 7-5. UC Davis added one back with 27 seconds on the clock to take an 8-5 halftime lead.

The home team would score the first two goals of the third quarter to double-up LMU 10-5 with 4:09 remaining. Mitrovic and Carrasco scored on back-to-back possessions to put the game at 10-7 entering the fourth quarter.

In less than two minutes into the final period,
Jonny Rimlinger and
Blazo Mitrovic scored to make it a one-goal game. The Aggies pushed back up by one before Carrasco added his fourth goal of the day to bring the score to 11-10. UC Davis went up two on the following possession, but consecutive goals by
Daniel Roth and Mitrovic tied the score at 12-all with exactly a minute to go in regulation. The Aggies scored with forty seconds on the clock, forcing LMU to call a timeout and draw up a final play. The last chance effort by the Lions resulted in a save from the UC Davis goalkeeper effectively ending the game.

With the win UC Davis secured the regular season conference championship and the top seed entering the WWPA tournament.

Mitrovic and Carrasco accounted for 10 goals and five assists between the two of them.

Robert Halligan made nine saves in the cage for the Lions.

LMU's final WWPA game will take place on Saturday at Santa Clara at 11am.
