Lions Erase Five-Goal Deficit, Complete Comeback to Defeat #T-9 SJSU

LOS ANGELES – LMU completed a comeback for the ages, erasing a five-goal deficit to top #T-9 San Jose State on Sunday afternoon. The #19 Lions outscored the Spartans, 5-1, in the final quarter to earn the 11-10 win.
 
San Jose State opened the game with the first two goals before Luke Chandler put one away for the Lions.
 
LMU tied the score in the first minute of the second quarter, as Jonny Rimlinger scored his first of a game-high five goals. Laszlo Szieben put in back-to-back goals for the Spartans to push their lead to 4-2. After Alex Marlow got one back for the Lions, SJSU scored the next two to remain doubled-up 6-3. Blazo Mitrovic scored with 59 seconds remaining in the half, but San Jose State added one back with 22 seconds remaining, making it a 7-4 game at intermission.
 
The visitors extended their lead with the first two goals of the third quarter, pushing LMU behind 9-4 with 2:50 remaining in the period. The Lions would end the period with three of the final four goals as Daniel Roth, Joseph Cavazos, and Tyler Harvey all scored. 
 
Entering the final period trailing by three goals, the Lions would come out on the offensive scoring three goals in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter. Cavazos put one in with 6:47 on the clock, then Rimlinger followed with 6:07 and 5:00 remaining, respectively. After SJSU retook the lead with 3:07 to play, it was Rimlinger's fourth quarter that changed the outcome of the game. The third-year sophomore scored two more goals to secure LMU's lead, tying the game at 2:08 and pushing LMU on top at 45 seconds.
 
Robert Halligan finished the game as the winning goalkeeper, saving 13 shots en route to victory.
 
Conference play begins next weekend as LMU hosts Air Force on Saturday. The Lions will also welcome UC Santa Barbara for a non-conference game on Sunday.
