LOS ANGELES – The LMU men's water polo team started ahead 7-0 in Saturday's game and never looked back as the team knocked off newly added conference opponent Biola, 24-2, at Burns Aquatics Center.
The Lions put together a complete performance to move to 2-0 in WWPA action with the win. Less than two minutes into the game, LMU already held a 4-0 lead thanks to a pair of goals each from both
Joseph Cavazos and
Blazo Mitrovic.
Daniel Roth added two first quarter goals, and
Tyler Harvey and
David Carrasco each one to jump the Lions ahead 8-0 less than five minutes into the game. Biola scored with 1:25 remaining in the opening period.
Six different Lions scored in the second quarter.
Alex Marlow,
Bruno Salonikios, Alexander Athymaritis,
Tyler Harvey, and
Augie Renezeder build LMU's lead up to 13-1. The Eagles scored with 56 seconds on the clock before
Joseph Cavazos scored his third of the game with 25 seconds remaining to bring the score 14-2 entering intermission.
The Lions would not allow a second half goal, as
Kai Scarlet,
Aden Mina,
Tommy Lien, and
Carter Knutson each added to the lead in the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was controlled by the
Augie Renezeder, who scored five of his seven goals in the final period.
Jeff Muller played all 32 minutes in the cage for the Lions, recording five saves.
A two-game road trip awaits the Lions, who will face Concordia on Wednesday and UC San Diego on Saturday in a pair of conference games.
