LMU Moves to 3-0 in WWPA Following Double-Digit Win

IRVINE, Calif. – The #15 LMU men's water polo team moved to 3-0 in the WWPA on Wednesday after defeating Concordia on the road, 16-5.
 
The Lions started the game with a four-goal lead, thanks to scoring plays from Joseph Cavazos, Blazo Mitrovic, Alex Marlow, and Alexandros Athymaritis. Concordia got one back, with the period ending with LMU ahead, 4-1.
 
The Lions added to the lead in the second quarter with five goals from four different players. Bruno Salonikios scored on a powerplay then was followed by David Carrasco scoring twice and Alexandros Athymaritis adding one. Tyler Harvey made it a 9-1 game at the half with his goal with no timing remaining in the quarter.
 
Daniel Roth scored on LMU's opening possession of the second half, less a minute into the quarter. Carrasco and Mitrovic each added one more before the Eagles added a second goal. Augie Renezeder made it a 13-2 game with his goal at the 1:17 mark of the third.

Robert Halligan played the first 16:58 in goal, making three saves and only allowing the Concordia score. Coach John Loughran changed out his goalkeeper and had Alex Marlow in the cage for the final 15:02 of action. Marlow made 12 saves and added two steals, while allowing five goals.
 
With LMU hanging to the sizable lead, the two teams each scored three goals apience in the final quarter. The Lions received fourth period scores from Tommy Lien, Augie Renezeder, and Aden Mina. Nobody scored after Mina's goal at the 4:50 mark.
 
The Lions will remain on the road and play a conference game at UC San Diego on Saturday.
