Loyola Marymount University women's basketball player Cassie Gordon scored her season high in points with 10, while earning her first career double-double in the Lions' game against the San Francisco Dons on Saturday afternoon in Gersten Pavilion.
Despite three Lions scoring in the double-digits, also including
Chelsey Gipson who scored 16 points and
Ariel Johnson who scored 10, LMU dropped its game to the Dons 84-66.
The Dons took the lead to open the game, but the Lions answered back and held them to a close first quarter, tying things up twice and staying within two possessions. LMU made three three-pointers in the first, which came from
Ciera Ellington, Gipson and
Nicole Rodriguez. The Lions closed out the first down 22-19.
The Dons were able to break away in the second quarter, extending their lead to double-digits, but a 9-2 run from the Lions brought LMU within one possession, but then fell back again and closed out the half down 47-39.
The Dons continued their momentum to open up the third quarter, outscoring the Lions 20-15, closing out the third down 67-54. The Lions made the first two baskets to open up the fourth quarter, but the Dons continued their momentum, beating the Lions 84-66.
Gipson led the Lions in points with 16, while Gordon and Johnson both had 10 a piece. Gordon led the team in rebounds with 10, while
Khari Clark had five. Clark and Gipson both lead the team in steals with three a piece. Ellington had one block.
The Lions shot 42 percent from the field and 35 percent from behind the arch. LMU out-shot the Dons from the line, 89 percent to 79. The Lions had 27 total rebounds, 20 points off of the bench, nine steals and 14 total assists.
The Lions will be back on the road next week to take on University of San Diego and BYU.
