LMU Heads to Eugene With National Rankings

LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University softball team will head to Eugene, Ore. to participate in the Oregon Invitational starting on Friday and concluding on Sunday. 
 
The Lions will head to the invitational coming off of a stellar weekend at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif., as LMU upset No. 4 LSU and No. 13 Michigan. The Lions are now receiving votes for the NCAA Softball rankings after making program history, as the team has never beat two top 15 teams in one season. 
 
Molly Grumbo is not only leading the Lions in batting average, but she is first in the West Coast Conference and fourth in the nation with .548, according to NCAA rankings. The catcher has also landed herself a No. 6 ranking in doubles, with 10 on the season across 17 games. Grumbo is third in the nation in hits with 34. 
 
Grumbo is not the only Lion to appear in national rankings. After only giving up one run against LSU and Michigan, Linnay Wilson has climbed up to No. 7 spot in saves with three on the season and No. 21 in strike-to-walk ratio with 7.00.  
 
LMU will kick off the invitational against University of Oregon, and then pick back up on Saturday and play Seattle University and Portland State. The Lions will conclude the invitational on Sunday to play Seattle University . 
 
The last time the Lions took on Oregon was in 2006. LMU is 4-5 against the Ducks all-time. LMU more recently took on Portland State, as the teams last met with Vikings in 2016, where the Lions won both of their games, advancing the all-time record against PSU to 25-18. 
 
LMU last met with Seattle University in 2015, and won its two last games. The Lions are 8-3 against the Redhawks. 
 
The Lions first game will be Friday at 6:00 PM in Eugene, Ore.
