Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team had three players score in double digits in their game against San Diego on Thursday, but it wasn't enough to beat the Toreros, as the Lions fell 54-50.
The Lions played a tight first quarter, as the teams tied things up four times and had four lead changes.
Jasmine Jones made the first three-point shot of the game, but the Lions left the first down 16-13.
Naomi Yim opened up the second quarter with a jumper, making it a one-point game. San Diego responded with an 8-2 run to extend their lead. The Lions closed out the half down 26-19.
San Diego opened up the third quarter with 6-0 run and then pushed their lead to double-digits but the Lions responded with a 10-2 run, including a last second made three-pointer from
Aspyn Adams to close out the third down 40-37. The Lions outscored the Toreros 18-14 in the third.
The Lions fought throughout the fourth quarter.
Laura Vaida made a jumper to make it a one-point game. LMU never let the Toreros extent their lead to more than seven points and came within two points in the last 12 seconds of play. The Lions weren't able to take the win, dropping the game 54-50.
CiCi Ellington led the Lions in points and steals with 11 and four, while
Jasmine Jones and
Raychel Stanley both had 10 points a piece. Jones led in rebounds with nine, while
Aspyn Adams led in assists with five.
The Lions outshot USD from the field and from behind the arch, as the team shot 40.4 and 50.0 percent, compared to the Toreros 35.8 and 9.1. LMU shot 57.1 from the free throw line, while USD shot 75 percent. The Lions had 32 total rebounds and 12 assists.
