SAN DIEGO – The Loyola Marymount University softball team lost its last road game before the team opens up at home, as the Lions fell to San Diego State University 8-1 in San Diego, Calif.
After both teams went scoreless in the top of the second, the Lions scored the first run of the game in the top of the second.
Allisha Martinez was walked, and then advanced to second after
Makayla Romeo grounded out.
Riley Ehlen hit a single to center field, and then advanced on the throw, sending Martinez home.
The Aztecs responded in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs. The Lions went scoreless for the rest of the game, while SDSU put up one run in the fifth and three in the bottom of the sixth.
Martinez went 1-2 at the plate, while Romeo and Ehlen went 1-3. The Lions had five total hits, while the Aztecs had eight.
Mallory Eckroth pitched 5.0 innings and allowed four hits and four runs, while collecting three strikeouts.
Brittany Steenbergen picked up her first loss of the season, as she pitched 1.0 innings and allowed four hits and four runs, while collecting two strikeouts,
Up next: LMU will host the first weekend of the LMU Tournament starting this Friday. The Lions will host Sacramento State, Quinnipiac University and Delaware. The tournament will conclude on Sunday.
