Mandel Rewrites LMU Record Books

PHOENIX, Ariz., -- After pulling 18 rebounds against Grand Canyon University, Meghan Mandel has landed herself in Loyola Marymount University's record book, tying for third all-time for single game rebounds.

Mandel had 10 rebounds by halftime, and seven in just the third quarter alone. The redshirt senior also had nine points and four blocks. The last time an LMU player had 18 rebounds was in January of 2019 by Bree Alford, who had 20. Mandel is tied with Buckley, Valerie Ogoke (12/28/07), Sheri Brown (1/15/93) and Joelle Longobardi (01/02/91).

While Mandel had an outstanding game, the Lions weren't able to beat GCU, as the team fell to the Antelopes 76-54.

Nicole Rodriguez gave the Lions a 3-0 start. The Lions battled the rest of the first, holding onto a lead for most of the first half of the quarter. GCU went on. A 7-0 run to take the lead, the Lions ended the first down 22-18.

The Lions held another tight second quarter, as they outscored the Antelopes 15-13, ending the half down 35-33.

LMU opened up the third with a 4-0 run to take the lead, but GCU responded. The teams were neck and neck for the rest of the quarter, but GCU led 52-48 to close out the third.

Mandel pulled her 18th rebound in the fourth, going from being tied for seventh all time with 17, to being tied for third. Grand Canyon outscored the Lions in the fourth, closing out the game 76-54.

Rodriguez led the Lions in points with 13, while Khari Clark and Ciera Ellington had 12 a piece. Natalia Klimek led the team in assists with four.

The Lions went 38 percent from the field and 72 percent from the line, compared to GCU's 35 and 57 percent, respectively. LMU out rebounded GCU 47-46, and also had five blocks compared to the Antelopes' two.

The Lions are looking towards their last non-conference games of the season in Las Vegas, Nev, where the team will take on Louisiana State University and UNLV.
