LOS ANGELES –The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team (1-4) will open up West Coast Conference play on Monday at home against No. 23 Gonzaga.
The Lions will head into conference play coming off of the Duel in the Desert Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., where several Lions put on impressive performances.
Ariel Johnson and
Cassandra Gordon made their debut as Lions against Louisiana State University.
The transfers led the team to a neck and neck game, where the Lions battled, but fell 54-52. Johnson led the team in assists with three, while also having eight points.
Chelsey Gipson had three steals, while
Natalia Klimek led the team in points with nine and
Khari Clark led the team in rebounds with six.
The Lions closed out non-conference play against UNLV, where three lions scored in double-digits, including
Nicole Rodriguez with 14,
Ciera Ellington with 13 and Johnson with 10. Rodriguez and set her career high in points, while
Khari Clark set her season high in rebounds with 10.
The Lions welcome a ranked Gonzaga team for their first WCC game of the season. The Bulldogs are 5-2 on the season and are on a four-game winning streak. Gonzaga leads the Lions 49-21 all-time. The teams last meeting was in Gersten Pavilion, where LMU fell 75-47.
This will be only the second time this season that the Lions host a team in. Gersten Pavilion. Tip-off will be at 6:00 PM PST.
