LMU continued to post strong GSR numbers in the latest announcement from the NCAA on Wednesday, surpassing last year's overall mark of 94 with a new mark of 95.
Â
"LMU student-athletes have once again set high standards academically and athletically, and we are proud have be among the nation's top institutions for Grad Success Rate." Said Athletic DirectorÂ
Craig Pintens. "Our athletic department is driven by our student-athletes and their successes in competition and in the classroom is evident. We appreciate the tremendous academic support staff for their outstanding work in helping us maintain this academic standard."
Â
This year marks the eighth straight time in the 15-year history of the metric that LMU has reached or exceeded 90 percent, and the 12
th straight year the campus has posted a mark of 88 percent or higher.
Â
GSR data indicates the number of student-athletes earning a degree within six years. The NCAA developed the GSR to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes. The Grad Success Rate includes transfer students and student-athletes who leave in good academic standing, unlike the federal rate, which does not count transfers. The GSR also accounts for mid-year enrollees and is calculated for every sport.
Â
The most recent Grad Success Rates are based on the four entering freshmen classes in Division I from 2010 through 2013.
Â
Overall, LMU's GSR rate of 95 percent is five percent better than the NCAA average of 90 percent. In this most recent data, 15 LMU teams recorded marks of 86 percent or better. Every one of LMU's teams are above the fed rate.
Â
Eight LMU teams registered perfect 100 GSR marks, including men's golf, men's tennis, men's and women's cross country and track, women's soccer women's swimming, women's tennis, and women's water polo. The perfect score is the ninth straight for women's water polo, the seventh straight for women's tennis, the sixth straight swimming, the fifth straight for golf and women's cross country and track.
Â
In addition to those perfect GSR programs, men's basketball, men's water polo, women's basketball, women's rowing, and softball all all equaled or improved their GSR score from the previous year.
Â
Of the 24 Division I schools in California, LMU's rate of 95 percent is third overall behind Stanford and Santa Clara at 96 apiece. The West Coast Conference shows well in the GSR standings, as the Lions are one of seven member schools that are at or above 92, and third overall.
