LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team (7-13, 3-4) will hit the road this week to continue conference play, as the team will take on Portland and Gonzaga.
The Lions will head into this week's games on a three-game winning streak, as the Lions most recently beat rival Pepperdine on the road. LMU's 84-77 win was led by
Chelsey Gipson, who had 23 points, while CiCi Ellington had 18.
Gipson isfourth in the West Coast Conference in conference scoring, while Ellington is 17
th. Gipson is tied for fifth in steals, averaging 2.4 on the season, and third in three-point field goals made with 2.1.
The Lions still hold down the No. 1 spot in the conference in rebounding offense, averaging 41.8 a game. LMU is third in the WCC in blocked shots, tallying up a total of 91, averaging 4.6 a game.
LMU is currently seventh in the conference, tied with Pepperdine, as both teams both have three conference wins and four losses.
The Lions will take on Portland on Thursday and Gonzaga on Saturday. Portland is 11-7 on the season and 4-3 in conference play, putting them tied for third overall. LMU is 34-3-1 against Portland all-time. The Pilots have not beaten the Lions since 2015, putting the Lions an eight-game winning streak.
Gonzaga currently leads the conference and has not lost a WCC game this season. The Bulldogs are 18-1 overall. LMU is 22-45 against Gonzaga all-time and last beat the Bulldogs in 2008 at home.
The Lions will tip-off against the Pilots on Thursday at 7:00 PM in Portland, Ore.
