HOUSTON, Tx. – The Loyola Marymount University volleyball team (3-3) fell to Rice University 3-1 on its last day of the Rice University Tournament in Houston, TX, going 1-2 on the weekend.

LMU started off day two on a strong note, as the Lions battled Rice in a re-match game. Rice put the first two points on the board, but the Lions quickly responded, tying things up and taking the lead. Rice tied the score up seven times, but was never able to take the lead back. Tied up at 21-21, the Lions broke away, and a kill by
Emma Johnson gave LMU its 25-22 win.
Up 1-0, the Lions went into their second set, where the team went on a 5-0 run to open the set, but Rice tied things up and took the lead. LMU was not able to reclaim the lead for the rest of the set, falling 25-19.
Tied at 1-1, the Lions went on another run in the third set, going 5-1. Rice tied things up three times and then took the lead after the score was tied 12-12. Rice took the third set 25-22.
A service error from Rice, and then a service ace from
Tess Reid would put the Lions on the board in the fourth set. Rice responded and tied things up at 2-2, and then took the lead for the rest of the match at 5-4. The Lions tied things up 11 times, but weren't able to win the set, as Rice took the set 25-23, winning the match.
Rose Booth led the team in kills with 16, while Johnson had 12. Reid put up 45 of the team's 51 assists, while
Mary Shroll had 14 digs and
Ella Boehle had 13. The team had six total blocks, with three block assists coming from
Sierra Bartley.

The Lions will be back on the road next Friday to participate in the Nebraska Tournament, where they will be taking on Denver, High Point University and Nebraska.
