LOS ANGELES – The #13 Lions benefited from seven unanswered goals and stellar goalkeeper play from Jon Lien and five goals from David Carrasco to take down #10 UC Irvine in the 11^th-Place Game of the 2019 SoCal Invitational. LMU (5-7) defeated the Anteaters, 14-10, on Sunday's game from Burns Aquatics Center.

Carrasco scored the game's first two goals and Blazo Mitrovic added one more before the opening period expired.
 
In the second quarter, Joseph Shaw scored LMU's fourth and seventh goals of the game, with Carrasco and Daniel Roth each scoring in between the Shaw pair. Lien did not allow a goal until the 3:41 mark of the second quarter. The Anteaters closed out the period with three consecutive goals, to make it a 7-3 score at the break.
 
Two of the first three goals of the third quarter were scored by Carrasco who finished the day with five goals on five shots and added an assist and two steals. LMU's lead grew back up to six, 10-4, after Roth scored his second of the day. UCI closed out the quarter with the next three of four goals, with Austin Clark's only shot of the game going in for the Lions. Clark led all players with a game-high three assists.
 
Each team scored three times in the fourth quarter to maintain the four-goal edge. Mitrovic opened the final period with his second goal and Alexandros Athymaritis scored a pair in the final four minutes of the game.
 
Lien played all 32 minutes as LMU's goalkeeper, compiling 14 saves, two steals, and three assists.

The Lions will play just one game next week following this week's five. LMU hosts Navy on Sunday morning, Oct. 6, for a 10:30 a.m. game from Burns.
