LOS ANGELES – LMU Women's Soccer is back from their opening weekend road trip and ready to make their 2019 Sullivan Field debuts this week. The Lions host San Jose State on Thursday night for a 7 p.m. match, then play in the first game of Sunday's WCC/Big 10 Challenge against seventh-ranked Penn State at 1 p.m. Following the game, Illinois and San Francisco will close out the one-day tournament at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The Lions (0-1-1) are coming off a loss and a draw on the road. LMU scored four goals in their opener and then used a penalty kick on Sunday to tie Duquesne in the 90
th minute and earn a tie. Goalkeeper
Lee Erickson leads the conference with 5.00 saves per game through the first weekend of play.
San Jose State has not allowed a goal this season, but also have not been able to find the back of the net offensively. The Spartans earned a pair of double overtime scoreless results to open the season with a 0-0-2 record. Among NCAA Division I programs, 56 have yet to concede a goal this season.
Penn State responded to an opening night one-goal loss to #3 Stanford with a 6-0 trouncing of Hofstra their following time out on the pitch. The Nittany Lions (1-1-0) leave University Park, PA for the first time this season for a two-game California road swing, playing at Long Beach State on Friday night before heading to the Bluff on Sunday. Penn State made it to the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals in 2018.
The first 500 freshmen to attend Sunday's game against PSU will receive a free LMU scarf. Please provide one cards at the door. Admission is free for all students with a valid one card.
A purchased ticket to Sunday's game will also allow fans to stay for the neutral-site game between Illinois (2-0-0) and San Francisco (1-1-0).
