Lions Record Longest Game in Program History

LOS ANGELES, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount softball team recorded its longest game in program history, forcing the Saint Mary's Gaels to 15 innings to come out with a 2-1 win, going 2-0 on the day. 
 
The Lions opened up their first game of the series with a 4-1 win over the Gaels. LMU set the tone in the second inning when Delanie Wisz hit a homerun, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead. 
 
Up 1-0, the Lions put up another run in the fourth inning, which started with a walk from Andrea Gonzalez and then a stolen base. 
 
With Gonzalez on second, Megan Dedrick hit a double to send her home, giving the Lions a 2-0 lead. 
 
The Gaels responded in the fifth inning, scoring one run, their only run of the game. 
 
The Lions sealed the win in the bottom of the sixth. Irma Sanchez hit a single to center field, which was followed by a single from Gonzalez. A sacrifice bunt from Dedrick advanced both runners to second and third. 
 
Wisz got her third RBI of the game after hitting a double to send Gonzalez and Snachez home. 
 
Both the Lions and the Gaels had seven total hits and zero errors. Sanchez and Wisz both went 2-3 at the plate, while Gonzalez and Dedrick went 1-2 and Desiree Moreno went 1-3. 
 
Hannah Bandimere pitched four innings, allowing six hits and one run while having three strikeouts. Linnay Wilson came in for the win, pitching three innings, only allowing one hit and zero runs and having two strikeouts.
 
Up 1-0 in the series, the Lions opened up their second game of the day, which resulted in a four-hour battle for the win. 
 
Both teams were off to a quiet start, as the Gaels and the Lions went into the bottom of the seventh inning tied up at 0-0, forcing extra innings. 
 
In the top of the ninth, the Gaels made some noise, as they scored one run. The Lions quickly responded in the bottom of the ninth. 
 
Sanchez hit a single to left field and then Kaley Robinson came in to pinch run. Dedrick reached first on an error, advancing Robinson to second base, who then advanced to third after Wisz was walked. 
 
Moreno was walked, which sent Robinson home, tying things up with the Gaels 1-1 to close out the ninth inning. 
 
Both teams went scoreless for five more innings. In the bottom of the 15th, the Lions took the win. 
 
Sanchez hit a double to left center. While on second, Dedrick hit a single that sent Sanchez home to take the win.
 
 LMU's 15-inning game marks the longest game in program history, topping the program's high of 12 innings, which the Lions have reached three times, with the last time being in 2008 against Utah. 
 
The Lions had 10 hits compared to the Gaels' five. Molly Grumbo went 4-6 at the plate, while Sanchez went 2-7. Sierra Marshall and Moreno went 1-5. 
 
Samantha Manti pitched 10 innings with two hits, one run and seven strikeouts. Bandimere came in for the win, pitching five innings, allowing three hits and zero runs.  
 
The Lions will be back in action on Sunday for Senior Day, where Hannah Bandimere and Irma Sanchez will be honored before the game at noon.
