LOS ANGELES, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount beach volleyball team went 2-0 on its first day of the West Coast Conference Championships, as it swept Pacific 5-0 and beat Saint Mary's 4-1.
The Lions started their day off against the Tigers, where
Savannah Slattery paired up with
Bo Culo on court one. The pair was pushed to a third set but came out with the win, 19-21, 21-15, 15-12.
Megan Nash and
Reka Orsi Toth picked up a quick 21-10, 21-12 win on court two, while
Sara Kovac and
Jessie Prichard won 21-15, 21-14 on court three.
Veronica Nederend and
Emma Doud won 21-14 on court four, while
Paige Panter and
Erin Martin easily beat their opponents on court five, 21-11, 21-5.
Up 1-0 on the day, the Lions were pushed by Saint Mary's but they still came out with the win. Slattery and Culo fell 21-15, 21-19 on court one. Nash and Orsi Toth were pushed to three sets on court two and came out with the win, 21-12, 20-22, 15-5, while Kovac and Prichard also won in three sets, 18-21, 23-21, 15-9.
Nederend and Doud beat their opponents on court four, 21-15, 21-11, while Panter and Martin won after three sets, 15-21, 21-19, 15-13, giving the Lions their second win of the day.
The Lions will be back in action on Saturday to take on Pepperdine at 9:00 a.m. The winner of that match will play at 1:30 p.m.
