HONOLULU, Hi., -- The Loyola Marymount beach volleyball team placed second at the Queen's Cup Invitational in Hawaii, as they went 3-2 on the weekend.
The Lions kicked off their first match of the Queen's Cup Invitational against No. 6 Hawaii, where LMU put up a fight, but fell 3-2.
Savannah Slattery and
Reka Orsi Toth fell to their opponents on court two 21-12, 21-18, giving Hawaii its first point of the match.
Paige Panter and
Erin Martin evened things out on court five, as they picked up a 21-12, 21-19 win.
The Lions took the lead after
Emma Doud and
Veronica Nederend won 21-15, 21-17.
Sara Kovac and
Jessie Prichard fell on court three, 21-19, 22-20.
Tied at 2-2,
Bo Culo and
Megan Nash pushed their opponents to three sets on court one, but fell 21-15, 22-24, 15-12, clinching the match for Hawaii.
Down 1-0 on the day, the Lions turned things around, as they swept Washington 5-0. Doud and Nederend put the first point on the board, as they won 21-18, 21-9 on court four. Slattery and Orsi Toth won 21-19, 21-19, while Culo and Nash were pushed to three sets, but came out with a 21-15, 16-21, 15-13 win on court one.
Panter and Martin forced a third set on court five and came out with a win, 17-21, 22-20, 15-13. While Kovac and Prichard won 21-17, 15-21, 15-8, clinching the match for the Lions.
The Lions continued their momentum in their last match of the day, as they swept San Jose State 5-0.
Doud and Nederend put the first point on the match for the Lions, as they won 21-8, 21-12.
Ella Boehle and
Sylvia Hernandez came in at the No. 5 spot and won 21-18, 21-10. Kovac and Prichard picked up a quick 21-9, 21-16, while Orsi Toth and Slattery won after three sets, 20-22, 21-17, 15-7.
Culo and Nash won after three sets, 17-21, 21-5, 15-11, clinching the match for the Lions and giving them a 2-1 record on the day.
Up 2-1 at the Queen's Cup, the Lions took on the Huskies in the first match on Sunday, where they swept Washington 5-0.
Kovac and Prichard cruised past their opponents, winning 21-7, 21-9. Culo and Nash won 21-14, 21-17, while Orsi Toth and Slattery won 21-14, 21-13. Doud and Nederend won 21-13, 21-17, while Panter and Martin clinched the match for the Lions, after winning 14-21, 21-13, 15-11, advancing to the championship round against Hawaii.
The Lions put up another fight against Hawaii, but fell 3-2. Culo and Nash fell 21-16, 21-10, giving Hawaii its first point of the match.
Kovac and Prichard tied things up after winning 21-13, 21-18, while Doud and Nederend won after three sets 21-16, 15-21, 15-8.
Up 2-1, Orsi Toth and Slattery fought until the end, as they pushed for a third set, but fell 18-21, 21-16, 15-10.
Tied at 2-2, Panter and Martin fell after three sets and a neck and neck first set, 27-25, 19-21, 15-8. The Lions' loss to Hawaii placed them second at the Queen's Cup Championship.
The Lions will be back in action next week to host the West Coast Conference Championship in Santa Monica, Calif.
