LOS ANGELES, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount men's tennis team (5-13, 3-3) put up a fight against No. 26 San Diego on Senior Day, but fell 4-1.
"In the end, I can only ask that we show up and compete for every point," said head coach
Tom Lloyd. "We did that yesterday and we only did it in patches today versus USD. "You either eat their lunch or they will eat yours; our lunch was eaten today"
The Lions kicked off the match honoring seniors
Lukas Moenter and
Nick Borchenko, who have been leading the Lions since their freshman seasons.
LMU put up a fight in doubles play, as
Ryan Brown and
Diego Nava beat Noah Dufort and David Norfeldt on court one 6-2.
Moenter and
Thien Nguyen fell to August Holmgren and Joel Gamerov on court one 6-2, leaving it up to court two. Borchenko and
Ethan Prost pushed Gui Osorio and Nico Borter to the end, but ended up falling 7-5, giving the Toreros the doubles point.
Down 1-0, Borchenko fell to Osorio on court two 6-3, 6-1, giving USD the first singles point.
Austin Di Giulio picked up the first win for the Lions on court six, after beating Dufort 6-4, 6-3.
Max Kaiser fell to Norfeldt on court five 6-4, 7-6.
Lucas Moreno pushed Joel Gamerov to three sets put couldn't hold on, as he fell 6-7, 6-0, 6-1 on court four.
Moenter and Nava were both up in their third set when the match was abandoned.
The Lions will conclude their season on the road next week, as they will take on Santa Clara University and San Francisco.
