LAS VEGAS, Nev., -- The Loyola Marymount women's basketball team closed out its 2018-19 season in the quarterfinal round of the West Coast Conference Championships, falling to the Saint Mary's Gaels. 
 
LMU took on the fourth seeded Gaels in the quarterfinals after beating USF 66-45. The Lions weren't able to find their rhythm against SMC, as the team fell 70-38 to end their season. 
 
"I am proud of my team, we have had a heck of a year and hopefully we are not done, that's our plan," said head coach Charity Elliott. "We have had some unbelievable wins this year and we have also had some unbelievable challenges and injuries. I am proud of our team, if we get an opportunity, we are going to come out and be ready to fight." 
 
The Gaels went on a 7-0 run before Jasmine Jones put the first point on the board after she was fouled. 
 
SMC maintained their momentum and closed out the half up 31-14. The Lions came back out in the second half and battled, but couldn't compete with the Gaels, losing 70-38. 
 
Jones led the team in points with 12, while also tallying up four rebounds. Gabby Green was also a team leader in points with 11 and four rebounds. Andee Velasco led the team in assists with two. 
 
The Lions shot 22 percent from the field and 52 percent from the free-throw line, compared to the Gaels' 45 and 78 percent. 
 
"I am proud of my teammates, I am proud of this program and I am proud of everything we have done together" said senior Andee Velasco. "We have upset teams, we have always been the underdogs. Today, it didn't work out for us, but I stand by my girls and I stand by my coach. I am proud of who we are and what we've done."
 
LMU ends the season 18-14 and 10-8 in conference play. The team will wait to hear if they have been selected to participate in any post-season tournaments.
