Lions Back Home to Host Cal Baptist Before Conference Play

LOS ANGELES, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount softball team (21-14) will be home at Smith Field after a weekend away to host Cal Baptist (14-17, 1-2) in a double-header on Tuesday.

The Lions will head into Tuesday's games after a 4-3 week, where the team beat Harvard 3-2, Cal State Fullerton twice, 4-3 and 3-0 and Long Beach State 3-0, while falling to Boise State 14-6, Fullerton 12-5 and LBSU 8-0.

Pitcher Samantha Manti led the Lions to three of last week's victories, as she pitched 19 innings and had an undefeated 3-0 record, including a shutout against Long Beach State. Manti's undefeated record earned her the West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week honor, LMU's fourth consecutive weekly honor.

Linnay Wilson is tied for the No. 13ranking in the nation for saves on the season, as she has three. Wilson pitched her first complete game last week against CSUF, where she pitched a scoreless one hit game, earning her third win of the season, while she earned her third save versus CSUF after she came in for Manti.

Andrea Gonzalez is leading the Lions in batting average, with .314 on the season. Molly Grumbo leads the team in runs with 19 on the season, while Riley Ehlen leads in runs batted in with 17.

Hannah Bandimere is 9-8 on the season with a 2.82 earned run average and has pitched 92.2 total innings and has 60 strikeouts.

The Lions have proven to be dominate at home, as they are 12-6 at Smith Field, 1-5 away and 8-3 at neutral sites.

LMU continues to hold down the No. 1 spot in the conference and it still the only WCC team that has a winning record.

Cal Baptist will be the last non-conference game for LMU, as the team will take the weekend off and then open up conference play against BYU.

The Lions have not taken on Cal Baptist since 1995 and are 2-5 against the Lancers all-time. The first game of the double-header will start on Tuesday at noon, with the second game to start at 2:30 at Smith Field.
