GCC Action Begins This Week as Lions Host Pair of Games at Burns

LOS ANGELES – Coming off a 4-0 week at the 18thAnnual LMU Invitational, the Loyola Marymount University women's water polo team is set to begin Golden Coast Conference competition. The 12th-ranked Lions (13-7) open conference play from Burns Aquatics Center, first with San Diego State on Friday at 4 p.m., then with Azusa Pacific Saturday at noon.

The Aztecs (8-11, 1-1 GCC) have two conference games under their belts already, losing to APU earlier in the year and then beating Concordia. Both LMU and SDSU both played No. 14 Princeton in their last games. The Lions closed out the LMU Invitational with a 10-7 win over the Tigers, before Princeton headed south for a Tuesday game at Aztec Aquaplex, where they defeated San Diego State, 8-6.

In their last competition, Azusa Pacific (14-10, 1-0 GCC) won two of three games two weekends ago at The Aztec Invitational hosted by SDSU. The tournament opened with the aforementioned GCC battle between the two programs, before the Cougars split the Saturday matchups against No. 24 Bucknell and No. 14 UC San Diego.

The Lions beat both teams in the regular season in 2018, and then topped San Diego State for a semifinals victory in the GCC Championships.

LMU's first three conference games are at home this season. All GCC matches will be free to attend and include live stats and a live stream.
