LOS ANGELES, Calif. - With wins already this year against both Portland and Portland State, the Loyola Marymount men's basketball team (16-8, 4-6 WCC) has a chance to go unbeaten against teams from the Rose City.
The Lions topped Portland State in an all-around performance back in December, and beat the Pilots on the opening weekend of West Coast Conference play at Gersten Pavilion. LMU has a +36 scoring margin in those two games.
LMU has now beat the Pilots in consecutive games, dating back to last season's WCC Tournament win.
Portland is looking for their first win since the start of conference play. They rank last in the conference, allowing opponents to shoot 42 percent against them. The matchup also pairs UP's 10th ranked scoring offense (66.8 ppg) in the WCC against LMU's top-ranked scoring defense (62.0 ppg).
LMU limited Portland to 25 first half points in their first meeting to lead, by 13 at the break. Four Lions finished in double figures against the Pilots back on January 5:
Joe Quintana (19 points),
Mattias Markusson (17),
Eli Scott (15), and
James Batemon (14).
Markusson paired his points with 10 rebounds for a double-double. Markusson leads the team with three double-doubles on the year.
The game will tip at 7 p.m. and stream on TheW.tv. The Chiles Center is hosting a double-header with the Portland's women's team playing at 5 p.m. against Gonzaga. In the event that that game runs late, the men's game will be delayed. Check @lmulionsMBB on twitter for game updates on updated start time, and throughout the game for live content.
