Lions Head to Sac State, Looking to Extend Record Start

LOS ANGELES, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount softball team will head up to Sacramento State this weekend with one of its best starts in program history. The Lions (6-2) three-game series against the Hornets will start this Saturday and marks the third consecutive weekend on the road for LMU. 
 
Last weekend's 2-0 sweep over UC Riverside gave the Lions' a 5-0 record, which tied for the programs best start all-time record. The last and only time LMU went 5-0 was in 2001. 
 
Boise State snapped the Lions' winning streak after LMU came back from a 3-0 deficit and forced the game to 10 innings. 
 
LMU picked up its sixth win of the season against Cal Poly, as they won 7-6 after eight innings. The Lions battled No. 2 UCLA in their last game of the weekend, but fell 3-1. Despite the losses, the Lions still maintain one of the best starts in program history, as their 6-2 record ties for second best. The last time the Lions were 6-2 was in 2007. 
 
Riley Ehlen led the Lions to their two wins, as she had a .500 batting averaging, while scoring two homeruns and tallying up five RBIs. 
 
Hannah Bandimere was also a key asset in the Lions' wins, as she pitched 19 innings over the weekend and only allowed 16 hits. The senior had a 2.37 earned run average on the weekend. 
 
After going 2-1 on the weekend, Bandimere is now ranked No. 70 in the nation in earned run average, with 1.1 on the season, and is now 4-1 on the season.  Delanie Wisz is tied for the No. 43 ranking in doubles per game, as she averages .50. 
 
LMU goes into this weekend's series tied for the No. 19 spot in double plays per game, averaging 6.3, and ranked No. 10 in doubles per game with 2.25. The Lions are ranked No. 24 in ERA, averaging 1.67 per game. 
 
The Lions will kick off the series against Sac State on Saturday at noon, with another game at 2:30. The teams will pick back up play on Sunday at 11 a.m.
 
Hornet's assistant coach Danielle Kaminaka will be reunited with her Alma Mater this weekend. The former Lion was the Pacific Coast Softball Player of the Year and graduated from LMU in 2005.
