Lions Back on the Road for LBSU/UCLA Tournaments

LOS ANGELES, Calif., -- The undefeated Loyola Marymount softball team hits the road to participate in the Long Beach State/UCLA Tournaments this weekend.

The Lions will head into this weekend with a couple of record firsts, as this is one of the team's best starts in recent years, as they will be coming off of four straight wins that they collected at the Cal State Fullerton Titan Classic. This is also the first time in recent history that LMU received votes (7) for NCAA D1 Softball Rankings.

The Lions are now 4-0 after beating Utah State 3-2, along with a shutout against Idaho State 1-0, a 3-2 win over Northwestern, which included snapping the team's season opening streak of 19.1 scoreless innings and a 2-1 win against Buffalo.

The Lions were led by pitchers Hannah Bandimere and Samantha Manti, as both of them had a 0 ERA on the weekend and will go into Thursday's game 2-0 a piece on the season.

Bandimere and Manti's 0 ERA gives LMU a No. 2 NCAA ranking for team earned run average. They are both individually ranked No. 1, as there is a 63-way tie with pitchers across the nation who also have a 0 ERA. The Lions also rank sixth in the nation for team doubles per game, as they average 2.75, while Irma Sanchez holds down the No. 21 spot in the nation for doubles per game with .75.

Many other Lions put up a strong showing over the weekend including, Sanchez who had two RBIs and two runs, Delanie Wisz who had two RBIs, while Hailey Jackson and Andrea Gonzalez had two runs a piece.

The Lions will kick off the tournament in Long Beach against UC Riverside at 9:00 a.m. The team last met with UCR during the NISC Championship, where LMU swept the Highlanders to take the title. The Lions will then take on Boise State at 11:30 a.m. LMU's last meeting against Boise State was in 2017, where LMU fell 5-0.

On Sunday, the Lions will head to Westwood to take part in the UCLA Tournament, where they will take on Cal Poly at 9:00 a.m. The Lions swept the Mustangs 2-0 in their last meeting in 2016. LMU will conclude the tournament with a game against No. 2 UCLA at 4:30 p.m.
