The Loyola Marymount men's rowing team battled mother nature and UC Irvine in a Dual Race across a 2000m course on Saturday, February 9^th. The race against UCI marked the first competition of 2019 for the men's rowing team.
 
The Lions and Anteaters raced their entire fleet of boats, including their Varsity 8, Junior Varsity 8 and Novice 8. While the race included their JV and N8 boats, the notable matchup was between the two Varsity boats.
 
With some wind and current to battle as a storm was passing through during the event, race times were a little slower than ideal and after it was all said and done UCI got the result. The V8 from UCI posted a result of 6:57 narrowly beating LMU's V8 time of 7:04.
 
Both boats were neck and neck coming into the half-way point at the 1000m mark before UCI started to slowly pull ahead, forming most of their seven second lead during the ending sprint around the 300m to go mark. It was an exhilarating race with both boats coming off the water very satisfied with the outcome.
 
The LMU men's rowing team next faces UCLA on Friday, February 15^th then taking a break from the water before facing off against UCI again at the Newport Regatta on March 24^th.
