Lions Fall in Last Game of Lobo Invitational

 
 
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M --The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team put up a fight against Providence College on Friday night, but the Lions fell to the Friars on their last day of the Lobos Invitational. 
 
LMU vs Providence – 48-45
 
The Lions dominated in the first quarter, as the team went on an 11-0 run to open the game. The Friars responded towards the end of the quarter and tied things up 13-13 to head into the second quarter. 
 
Raychel Stanley opened up the second quarter with a layup to give the Lions the lead. The teams were neck and neck for the rest of the half. Down by one, CiCi Ellington made two free-throws to close out the half up 23-22. 
 
Providence responded when they came out in the third quarter, going on a 6-0 run to take the lead. The Lions cut their deficit to only one after Ellington closed out the quarter with two made free throws. 
 
Down 35-34, Ellington went back to the line to open up the fourth. The freshman went 2-2, giving the Lions their lead back. The teams battled it out for the remainder of the quarter. A layup from Stanley gave the Lions the lead with just about a minute left. Providence came back and won the game 48-45. 
 
Ellington led the Lions in points with 11, and had four steals, while going 6-8 at the line. Stanley tallied up 10 points. Jones had another dominating game in rebounds with 12, while having two blocks. Aspyn Adams shot three three-pointers. 
 
The Lions shot 30 percent from the field and 61.1 percent from the line, while the Friars shot 25.5 and 68 percent. 
 
Up next: The Lions will kick off conference play with starting with BYU and San Diego next week.
