LOS ANGELES – Playing a rare home game away from The Bluff, the LMU men's basketball (5-7) team shot a season low 39.1 percent from the field. Portland State (6-6) capitalized to take the game, 76-66.
Eli Scott scored LMU's first six points, with a dunk and pair of layups, but the Lions trailed in the game from 4-2 on. Scott led all players with 27 points and added seven rebounds
Portland State used an 8-0 run to build up their first double-digit lead of the half and go ahead 26-12 with 11:35 on the clock. The Vikings strung together 10 unanswered later in the period to take a 47-23 lead with 3:25 remaining in the half, before going into the break with a 51-29 advantage.
LMU shot 1-for-7 from three in the first half, whereas PSU made 6-of-10 from behind the arc.
Early in the second half, LMU strung together a 6-0 run to cut it to a 54-39 game with 16:04 to play. Scott closed out the game with the final five points to make it a 10-point finish.
Keli Leaupepe scored nine points and tied his career-best with five rebounds.
The Lions shot a season-high 64 times, but only made 25 shots. LMU's 35 rebounds is the most this season against a Division I opponent by 10. The Lions also recorded five blocked shots.
The Lions return to campus for a true home game on Sunday, hosting Cal State Fullerton in a 1 p.m. contest.
