SAN DIEGO – The Loyola Marymount University volleyball team (15-15, 9-9 WCC) closed out it is season against San Diego Tuesday evening, while losing to the Toreros 3-1.
LMU vs USD – 21-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-20
The Lions opened up set one on a strong note, as USD put the first two points on the board, but the Lions quickly responded after a kill from
Savannah Slattery and tied things up and then took the lead, which the team held on to for the rest of the set. Up 23-21, a service error by USD and a bad set gave the Lions their 25
thpoint to win the set.
The Lions went on a 4-0 in the second set to take the lead, but then USD went on a 7-1 run to take the lead back. There were two tied scores and two lead changes in the second set, the Lions closed out the set down 25-15.
Tied at 1-1, LMU took an early lead in the first set, but USD responded, taking the lead. The Lions went on a 5-0 run to try and take the lead back, but the team fell short, after four tied scores and one lead change, the Lions dropped set three 25-18.
The Lions put up a fight in set four, as there were seven tied scores and three lead changes, but the team couldn't take the set win, as USD won 25-20, winning the match,
Slattery led the team in kills with 18.
Tess Reid led in assists with 20, while
Jessie Prichard had 18. Reid also had three service aces, while
Ella Boehle had two, while also having 12 digs.
Alexis Morrow led the team in blocks, with three block solos and two block assists. LMU had eight total blocks, compared to USD's nine.
This concludes the Lions' 2019 season. LMU will graduates seniors Slattery,
Bo Culo, Morrow, Reid and
Emma Johnson.
