The Loyola Marymount University Lions men's soccer team (10-4-3, 5-0-0 WCC) used two second half goals to keep their unbeaten record in the West Coast Conference intact and extended their winning streak to four games in a 2-0 victory over Santa Clara on Senior Night at Sullivan Field. The win keeps LMU tied atop the WCC standings alongside Saint Mary's.
Â
The Lions and Broncos were scoreless in the first half, finding the chances to score hard to come by as LMU had three shots and one corner while Santa Clara recorded four shots and three corners. With little opportunities to score both teams ended the first 45 minutes tied at zero.
Â
The Lions broke through early in the second half as
Jack Sauls header found the back of the net giving LMU a one goal advantage. Sauls' third goal of the season was scored on assists from
Noel Caliskan and
Leo Zulli and ultimately proved to be the game winner as the Lions defense held the Broncos scoreless.
Â
LMU's defense was on full display throughout the match as they allowed the Broncos only six shots and three corners for the game. The Lions were however, opportunistic on the offense end by making the most of their nine shots and four corners which produced two goals for the game.Â
Â
The second goal for the Lions came with a man advantage and off the foot of
CJ Neville, whose score provided LMU with a two goal advantage and Neville his team-tying fourth goal of the season. LMU benefitted from the man advantage courtesy of Santa Clara's Julian Bravo picking up his second yellow card in the 76th
 minute of the match.Â
Â
The Lions defense remained stout the remainder of the game as they held tight against the Broncos late-minute charge to keep the shutout intact. The shutout is the eighth of the season for the Lions and goalkeeper
Jacob Jackson.
Â
Up next for the Lions is a match against No. 11 Saint Mary's on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Saint Mary's Stadium with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m.
