LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University volleyball team won its last match in Gersten Pavilion of the season, as the Lions beat Saint Mary's College 3-1 on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon. The Lions honored seniors

Tess Reid before the start of the match. The seniors were honored in front of the biggest crowd the team has drawn this season.

The Lions were off to a rough start in set one, as the Gaels took the first lead. The Lions took their first lead after the Gaels made an attack error. The Lions were up 15-12 until the Gaels went on a 6-0 run to take the lead. LMU responded with a 3-0 run to tie things back up, but the Gaels went on another 6-0 run to win their only set of the match 25-21. There were 10 tie scored and four lead changes in set one.
LMU responded in the second set, as the Lions allowed the Gaels to tie things up five times, but never gave them the lead. The Lions went on a 4-0 run and then a service ace from
Tess Reid secured the second set win for the Lions.
Tied at 1-1, LMU kept the momentum going in the third set, but the Gaels battled back, tying the score up five times with two lead changes. Tied at 24-24,
Savannah Slattery had a kill and then a service ace, giving the Lions the third set win.
Up 2-1, the Gaels quickly went on a 5-0 run to take the lead. The Lions responded with a 6-1 run to take the lead. The teams battled until the end.
Emmelyn Walters and
Savannah Slattery both had kills to end the set and give the Lions their last home win of the season.
Slattery led the team in kills with 17, while
Piper Manross had nine and
Alexis Morrow and Walters had eight.
Jessie Prichard led the Lions in assists with 25, while Reid had 22. Culo led the team in digs with 25, while Slattery had 18, giving her a double-double.
Morrow led the team in blocks with two block assists and one block solo. The Lions had seven total blocks compared to the Gael's 12.
The Lions had six total service aces and 53 assists, while SMC had three and 52.
Up next: The Lions will continue the rest of their season on the road, starting with a trip up to the Bay Area to take on San Francisco and Santa Clara.
