LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The 2018-19 Loyola Marymount University men's basketball team (12-2) enters conference action with double-digit wins for the first time since the 1987-88 WCAC Champion team won 10 of their 13 out-of-league games to open the season. The 12 games won prior to conference action is the most in the team's history since joining a league in 1955-56, 63 seasons ago.
On Thursday, WCC action begins with the Lions traveling up the coast to face Pepperdine (7-7) in #PCHCup action from Firestone Pavilion. LMU and Pepperdine split games last season, with each team defending their home court.
This year's non-conference schedule has three teams entering WCC action with only two losses, with Gonzaga (13-2) and San Francisco (12-2) joining the Lions. Of the 10 conference teams, nine posted a .500 or better win percentage over the first half of the season, with the remaining school, Portland, just one game down.
The Lions sit atop the conference and rank in the top 10 nationally in a pair of statistical categories. LMU's three point defense is sixth in the Division I with opponents hitting 25.9 percent from long distance. LMU also boasts the 10th best scoring defense in the NCAA, allowing just 59.2 ppg.
Coach
Mike Dunlap enters the game with 399 career NCAA wins, after winning his 60th game at LMU on Dec. 28 over UC Davis. Dunlap's collegiate record as a head coach is 399-199 (.667) entering Thursday.
The game will air on Spectrum Sportsnet in Los Angeles, as well as on ROOT NW, NBCS CA, ATT RM, TheW.tv and stream live on TheW.tv out of region.
