Men's Tennis Kicks Off Season Ranked No. 2 in WCC

Live Stats

LOS ANGELES, Calif., - The Loyola Marymount men's tennis team will kick off its 2019 season in a home opener against Fresno State on Sunday.

After a successful 2018 fall campaign, the Lions will go into this weekend's match ranked second in the 2019 West Coast Conference Men's Tennis Preseason Poll, as voted on by the head coaches. LMU holds down the No. 2 spot with Santa Clara and Brigham Young University after all three received 63 points. San Diego was picked to win the conference with 80 points.

"Preseason rankings are just that, they are not permanent," said head coach Tom Llyod. "What this does show is that we are expected to win and that in turn brings pressure. We will emphasize the process and work each day towards getting better and prepared for that pressure."

The Lions are led by senior Lukas Moenter, who was named to the 2019 All-WCC Preseason Men's Tennis Team, the conference also announced on Wednesday.

The senior made LMU men's tennis history when he became the No. 60 singles player in the nation after going 8-3 in singles play during the fall; the program's highest ranking.

The Lions will take on the Bulldogs at LMU Tennis Courts at noon on Sunday.

Admission to all matches are free and held at LMU Tennis Center.
