LOS ANGELES, Calif. - In a matchup of Head Coaches with 400 NCAA wins, the Loyola Marymount men's basketball team (13-3, 1-1 WCC) and the Saint Mary's Gaels (10-7, 1-1 WCC) battle it out on Saturday at 7 p.m. with hopes of moving to 2-1 in the early portion of West Coast Conference play.
With last Saturday's win over Portland,
Mike Dunlap collected his 400th win as head coach that spans 20 years in the collegiate ranks. Including his time as an NBA head coach and as a head coach in Australia's NBL, Dunlap's career wins come out to 472.
Dunlap joins SMC's Randy Bennett in the elite coaching club. Bennett earned his 400th NCAA win earlier this season with a win over Bucknell. Within the conference Mark Few (549) and Herb Sendek (450) have each hit the plateau with Lorenzo Romar sitting at 399.
James Batemon continues to lead the conference with 32 steals after collecting four in the win over the Pilots. It was announced on Wednesday that Batemon has been named to the Lou Henson Award Watch List, for best mid-major player.
Batemon's league-leading 2.00 steals per game is helping to keep opponents at a WCC-best 60.6 points per game, which ranks 10th-best in Division I. Conversely, Saint Mary's turns the ball over a conference-low 10.1 times per game.
Additionally, LMU boasts the conference's best three-point defense (27.6 percent) and Saint Mary's leads the conference shooting 39.3 percent from deep.
The game will air live on Spectrum Sportsnet in Los Angeles, as well as stream on TheW.tv out-of-region. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Lions will be recognizing members of the armed forces throughout the game for the team's Salute to Service night. Military members and their families are eligible for discounted tickets.
The LMU women's team will play at Gersten Pavilion earlier in the day for a 1 p.m. conference game against Santa Clara.
