LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount men's soccer team (1-1) was defeated by St. John's (1-1) 4-1 at Sullivan Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Storm struck early, scoring two goals in the opening 10 minutes of play. Skage Simonsen gave SJU a 1-0 lead just 5:31 into the contest after a quick turn and score off the assist from Sannousi Sangary. Matt Forster scored his first of two goals at 8:51, securing the ball off a deflection with the quick shoot and score.

The Lions got on the board at 18:47 as sophomore
Francis Avoce scored his second goal of the season on a penalty kick, sneaking it past the keeper on the left side.

The Red Storm put in two more goals in the second half, with the first coming at 77:14 by Tani Oluwaseyi who took it up the middle and went one on one with Lions keeper
Paul Lewis following the pass from teammate Josiah Crawford to give SJU a 3-1 edge. Oluwaseyi had a breakway up the right side and crossed it to Forster at the 84:08 mark who punched in the final goal of the match, making it 4-1 in favor of the Red Storm.
Lewis finished with five saves in goal for the Lions, while Tyron Matuta of SJU had two. The Red Storm tallied 16 total shots to the Lions' 4, and LMU held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

LMU hits the road to the Midwest following tonight's match, taking on Loyola-Chicago on Aug. 31 and DePaul on Sept. 2 before returning to California and playing at UC Irvine on Sept. 7. The Lions return home on Sunday, Sept. 9 vs. Long Island.
