Loyola Marymount University Athletic Director Craig Pintens announced that Kelly Dormandy has been hired as Assistant Athletics Director, Strength and Conditioning. Dormandy has served as head strength and conditioning coach with the Los Angeles Sparks since 2015.

While heading the operation for the Sparks, Dormandy has also worked as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at USC since 2012, developing and implementing all aspects of annual strength, speed & agility, ACL prevention, energy system development and recovery programming.

"Kelly is an incredible talent and a leader in the strength and conditioning world," Pintens said. "She places an emphasis on the student-athlete experience and has won at the highest level.   Kelly is innovative and will make a tremendous impact in the lives of our students."

In her role with the Sparks, Dormandy has worked with 2016 Playoff MVP Candace Parker, 2016 League MVP Nneka Ogwumike, and 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Ana Dabovic. With Dormandy on staff, Los Angeles captured the 2016 WNBA Championship.

No stranger to success at the collegiate level as well, Dormandy helped mold the 2016 USC women's soccer program into National Champions while also pushing the 2016 and 2017 beach volleyball programs to the same plateau. Other Trojan programs that have Dormandy's stamp include USC women's basketball, men's and women's swimming & diving, and women's tennis.

"First and foremost, I'd like to thank Craig Pintens for this incredible opportunity. I'm ecstatic to lead the LMU Strength & Conditioning program. We have a great deal of hard work that lies before us, but I relish the challenge of building a championship mentality and culture within every student-athlete and across every sports team at LMU."

Prior to her arrival at USC, Dormandy made stops at the University of Maryland and South Carolina, serving as an assistant strength and conditioning coach while working with a variety of programs, including women's soccer, softball, swimming and equestrian.

Working as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Springfield College, a leader in the field for strength and conditioning education, Dormandy earned her master's degree in exercise science and sports studies with a concentration in strength and conditioning in 2010. During that span, she also logged more than 400 hours as a performance specialist intern at Athletes' Performance and Core Performance Center.

Before embarking on her coaching career, Dormandy played collegiate soccer at Maryland and Quinnipiac University. When sidelined with a career-ending neck injury in 2006, Dormandy took her competitiveness to the fitness stage, placing 1st overall in women's bodybuilding in The Fitness Atlantic 2007 fitness extravaganza. She would later graduate from Quinnipiac University in 2008 with a degree in business marketing.

Dormandy is a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and owns a USA Weightlifting (USAW) Level 1 certification. She is also trained in CPR for the Professional rescuer, First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator by the American Red Cross.
