LOS ANGELES – The International Champions Cup, the summer's biggest club soccer competition, included 18 of the world's most iconic and influential clubs, 90 out of 100 of the world's top-ranked players and all eight of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinalists. One of the top clubs, Tottenham Hotspur, used Loyola Marymount University's Sullivan Field as their headquarters and training central during their week of Southern California competition.
The club arrived to LMU men's and women's soccer facility for their first training on Monday morning, July 23, and used it to prepare for matches against AS Roma in San Diego, FC Barcelona at the Rose Bowl, and Tuesday's game against AC Milan in Minneapolis.
The trainings brought out stars not just from the Spurs, but from all sports and entertainment, including Super Fans of the English club, NBA and West Coast Conference legend Steve Nash and Travel Channel's Adam Richman.
Tottenham also hosted a youth soccer clinic on Sullivan Field for local Los Angeles kids.
This is not the first time a European power has called Sullivan Field their temporary home. LMU has also hosted FC Barcelona, Manchester City, and Paris Saint-Germain, which included 16 players from this past World Cup.
As the pro teams make their return to Europe, Sullivan Field is now set again to host the Lions. Both LMU's men's and women's soccer teams return to campus in August and play a home-opener double-header on Aug. 24 to kick off the 2018 season.
