Los Angeles, CA (April 24) - The Loyola Marymount University women's water polo team advanced to their fourth straight Western Water Polo Association championship game thanks to an offensively impressive 16-8 win over CS Bakersfield (13-12) in the second semifinal at the Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center Saturday afternoon.

The sixth-ranked Lions (23-5) continue to look for their fourth straight WWPA title as they will face 17th-ranked UC San Diego for the third straight year in the Championship game of the WWPA tournament. The game will be played at 2 p.m.

Senior Devon Wright scored four goals for the Lions while sophomore Stacia Peterson and senior Teresa Guidi added three each as LMU built a 11-3 lead at the half and never looked back.

In the last two WWPA Championships the Lions have defeated the Tritons, 8-4 in 2002 and 8-6 in 2003. The two teams have met twice this season with LMU winning 10-1 on Feb. 7 and then again 8-3 on March 6, both in UC San Diego.

For the third straight year 17th-ranked UC San Diego (15-19) advances to the championship game of the WWPA tournament as they defeated 12th-ranked UC Davis (20-11), 10-6, in the first semifinal. The Aggies, who falls to UC San Diego in the semifinals for the third straight year, will play at 12:45 p.m. against CS Bakersfield in third place game.

UC San Diego, the second seed in the tournament, used four unanswered goals in the second quarter to cruise to the title game. Jessica Wong scored a hat-trick on the day, all in the first half.
