Game #3 - Fast Start Lifts CS Bakersfield

CSUB 12, Santa Clara 8

Los Angeles, CA (April 23) - In the first game not decided by just a goal, Cal State Bakersfield, the number four seed in the 2004 Western Water Polo Championships, used a fast start to push past number five seed Santa Clara, 12-8, Friday afternoon.

Tied a 2-2 after the first period, the Road Runners used three goals in both the second and third periods to pull away from the Broncos. Jamie Bakers scored four goals to lead Bakersfield while Catherine Flynn also had four goals for the Broncos.

Santa Clara trailed 8-3 after three periods but tried a come back with five fourth period goals, including three by Flynn. Bakersfield will play in Game #10 on Saturday at 1:45 in the first semifinal against either LMU or Chapman. Santa Clara will play at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in game #7 against Sonoma State.
