Los Angeles, CA (April 24) - UC Santa Cruz used a 5-2 win over Sonoma State to take ninth place in the 2004 Western Water Polo Championships on Sunday morning at the Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center on the campus of Loyola Marymount University.
The Banana Slugs improve to 6-27 on the season while Sonoma State falls to 8-20 on the year in their first appearance in the WWPA tournament.
UCSC scored the games first five goals, three from Emily Erskine. Desiree Gant started the scoring for the Slugs with 55 seconds in the first quarter. Erskine then put the Slugs up 3-0 with a pair of 6-on-5goals in the second quarter.
Lindsay Stripling put UCSC up 4-0 with 5:53 in the third and then Erskine added her third with 4:00 minutes remaining. Amanda Haddock scored twice in the fourth for the Seawolves.
