Aug. 13th, 2004

Brussels, BELGIUM (Aug. 13) - After a day spent in the oldest city of Holland, the Loyola Marymount University women's soccer team turned to its youth for a 4-0 victory over RSC Anderlecht in the first game of the Lions' 2004 European Tour. In the first full day of their trip, the Lions spent the day touring and shopping in Maastricht, Holland, the country's oldest city. With the day filled looking at the past, the Lions turned to their future for a positive outcome to their first game. In the 4-0 victory over a team that claims to have never been beaten by a collegiate team from the United States, the Lions earned goals for a pair of freshman and a pair of returning players expected to lead the Lions' offense in 2004. Freshman Amanda Bolado had an impressive start of her Lion career, scoring LMU's first goal of the game at the 38:00 mark. She took a throw-in from sophomore Alicia Lloyd to take a 1-0 lead. With the score remaining the same at halftime, the Lions came out to a different scene in the second half. With sky opening up to a downpour, LMU was not effected as they opened up the game with three scores. Juniors Lori Sims and Kelly Lewandowski would knock in the next two goals off of defensive stops. Sims scored at the 51:50 mark off a counter on a corner kick RSC Anderlecht. More than 15 minutes later Lewandowski scored off a steal to put LMU up 3-0. Freshman Brandi Young finished the scoring in the 77th-minute on a goal that was assisted by Bolado. LMU will have two days off from playing but will continue their morning training sessions as they tour Europe. On Friday the Lions will head to Aachen, Germany for more tours, including the home of the King of the Franks Charlesmagne. They will also attend a professional soccer game between Roda JC and Vitesse. Saturday will be an adventure day for the Lions, as they will have a chance to do mountain biking, rock climbing and spelunking in the caves of Valkenburg. They will then remain in Germany to take on Standard Liege in their next game at 4:00 p.m. local time in Germany. Follow the entire trip at www.LMULIONS.com. - GO LIONS -
