Hosting UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday afternoon, #50 LMU men's tennis (15-3) had its 12-match win streak snapped by the Gauchos (13-6), suffering a 4-3 setback from the LMU Tennis Center.

"It was a great match today," head coach Tom Lloyd said. "UCSB just flat out played better than us on the bigger points in the top of the lineup."

Diego Nava and Errol Smith, the reigning WCC Doubles Team of the Week, opened pairs play with a 6-4 victory on court three, but Freund/Rotheram evened the doubles matches with a 6-4 win on court two. With the point hinging on court one, Moreno de Alboran/Holm outlasted Gabriel Diaz Freire/Nick Borchenko, 6-3, to take a 1-0 lead in the match score.

Despite dropping the doubles point, LMU managed to eventually take a 3-1 lead in the match score after winning each of the first three singles decisions. Borchenko, who has led the way all year in singles play, got the Lions on the board with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Victor Krustev on court five. Nava followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Joseph Rotheram on court six, as LMU moved to 2-1 in the match score. Finally, Lucas Moreno captured a straight-set 6-1, 6-4 win over Anders Holm on court four to push LMU to within a point of victory.

Joseph Guillin kept the Gauchos alive with a 6-4, 7-5 win on court two, and Simon Freund followed with a three-set, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 win over Errol Smith on court three to tie the match and focus all the attention on the top of the order. There, #85 Moreno de Alboran won a hard-fought match with Diaz Freire, 6-4, 7-6 (3) to capture the come-from-behind victory for UCSB.

"We had our chances in doubles and just didn't hold on the opportunity. Congrats to UCSB, and we will learn from this match today."

The Lions, sitting in first place in the WCC standings, will now turn their attention to West Coast Conference play, traveling to BYU for a Friday match at 12:30 p.m.
