LOS ANGELES â€" The Loyola Marymount softball team (10-12-1) was defeated by Harvard University (5-6) 8-2 on Friday afternoon in their lone game on Day 2 of LMU's tournament.
Harvard scored its first run in the top of the third before taking charge in the fourth with a massive inning, scoring six runs. Elizabeth Shively hit a triple which sent Erin Lockhart home to start it off, followed by an Alexa Altchek single to left field which brought Shively home. Next, Olivia Giaquinto scored as Kaitlyn Schiffhauer walked and Altchek and Rhianna Rich scored the final runs of the inning on a fielder's choice.
Harvard scored its final run of the game in the top of the sixth with a walk-off homer to left center field by Giaquinto.
The Lions rallied to secure two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but the final score would stand at 8-2. Delanie Wisz earned the first RBI for LMU, driving Molly Grumbo home as she doubled down the left-field line. Megan Martin singled to shortstop to drive the final run in, as Wisz scored.
Harvard's Kathleen Duncan earned the win on the mound, while LMU's Linnay Wilson moved to 4-5 on the season with the loss.
The first three games of the day at the LMU Tournament went as follows: FGCU defeated Providence 2-1, FGCU defeated Southern Utah 10-1 and Harvard defeated Southern Utah 11-3.
The Lions will be back on the field tomorrow when they take on Southern Utah at 3:30 p.m.
