17th Annual LMU Invitational Wraps 16 Games Over Two Days

LOS ANGELES - Over the course of two day, Burns Aquatics Center hosted eight teams and 16 games for the 17th Annual LMU Invitational. Against the competitive field, Loyola Marymount (12-13) went 1-3 over the two day tournament. On Saturday, the No. 11 Lions opened the morning with a loss to No. 9 Michigan and played a tight game later in the afternoon against No. 17 Princeton.

Game 3: #9 Michigan 13, #11 LMU 3 | Box Score

After Michigan opened the game with a pair of goals, Daniela Hernandez found Hana Vilanova for the 6-on-5 goal to cut the UM lead in half. The Wolverines ended up taking a 5-1 lead after the first and went ahead 6-1 before Vilanova scored her second of the day with 3:13 before the half to make it 6-2 at the break.

Vilanova then scored her third goal to open the third quarter before seven-straight Michigan goals ended the game.

Claire Wright made seven saves through the first three quarters and Sky Flores added two in the final eight minutes.

Game 3: #17 Princeton 7, #11 LMU 6 | Box Score

Abbey Grosse scored early in the game, lofting the ball past the visiting goalkeeper to put LMU ahead, 1-0. Following three-consecutive goals by the Tigers, Hana Vilanova took advantage of a powerplay to make it a 3-2 deficit at the half.

The two teams traded goals in the third quarter to keep it a one-score game. Daniela Hernandez and Vilanova responded to each of the Princeton goals in the period.

Hernandez then tied it at 5-all with 5:56 in the fourth quarter before Princeton scored the game-winner with 4:31 on the clock.

Claire Wright hit the double-digit save mark with 10.

Up Next

Conference play continues this upcoming week. The Lions look to continue their unbeaten Golden Coast Conference start with a home game back at Burns against Pacific on Mar. 23 at 4:00 p.m. Water Polo players from the past return to campus to play in the exhibition Alumni Game the following day with a scheduled start of 12:00 p.m.
